The current regional airline Air Connect must operate its own account without scheduled flights in the 2023/24 winter flight schedule. The two ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft will fly permanently under wet lease for Aeroitalia.
For several weeks now, Air Connect has been steadily shortening the flight schedule that it offers from Romania on its own account. In addition to individual international routes, the majority of travel has so far been domestic. This is now over – at least for the time being – because in the winter of 2023/24 we will be operating exclusively on behalf of Aeroitalia from Italy. For example, the new Ancona-Vienna facility is to be operated for the Italian aviation company.
However, Air Connect will not finally withdraw from the scheduled business. The Boardingpass.ro portal reports, citing the Romanian aviation company, that flights are to be carried out again on its own account in the 2024 summer flight schedule. To this end, the fleet will be expanded to include two more ATR72-600s.
The three remaining routes from Bucharest are to be put on a break for an indefinite period of time on October 1, 2023. This also means that the offer will be reduced from Băneasa Capital Airport, which has been reactivated for commercial traffic. According to Boardingpass.ro, the factory traffic that is served for Ford between Craiova and Istanbul will also not be operated.
There is not yet an exact date for the planned resumption of scheduled flights. Air Connect announces that it will communicate the 2024 summer flight schedule at a later date. Some time ago there were rumors that Aeroitalia might be interested in taking over the Romanian regional airline. This information is not currently valid information.
