The Boeing 737-Max-7 does not yet have FAA approval and the exact date of the expected issue has not yet been set. However, it has now been announced that Luxair will act as the European launch customer. The small carrier should thus become the European first operator of the smallest Max variant.

While the Max-8 and the larger Max-9 are in active scheduled service with many airlines, the situation is different for the smallest and largest variants (Max-7 and Max-10). These have not yet been approved by the FAA and other aviation authorities. However, after a long struggle, a compromise was reached regarding a new US safety regulation, because in other cases different typings would have been necessary for Max-8/9 and Max-7/10. This would have lost an important sales argument.

In total, Luxair was waiting for the delivery of eight B737-Max. Two leased Max-8s will soon join the fleet. The Max-7 has also been ordered and even becomes a European launch customer. « We continue to invest in Luxair’s growth and this agreement for four Boeing 737-7s is a further step in securing a long-term future for our national carrier. » says Giles Feith, CEO of Luxair.

The carrier’s fleet currently consists of four Boeing 737-700 and -800, eleven de Havilland Dash 8-400 and two Embraer 190 rented under wet lease. Embraer 145s have also been in service in the past, but these have already been retired. The fleet will soon be expanded by two B737 Max 8s, which will be purchased through a lessor. In the medium term, the NG models are to be replaced by Max.

« We are very pleased that Luxair has selected the 737-7 based on its 737-8 order, making it the launch customer in Europe for this type of aircraft, » said Brad McMullen, senior vice president of global sales and marketing by Boeing Commercial Airplanes
