The Star Alliance member SAS had around 1.4 million passengers in January 2023. This was around 89 percent above the same month last year. The company announced that occupancy improved by 19 percentage points to 68 percent.

“January traffic was 1.4 million passengers, an 89 percent increase from January 2022. This is a healthy result in the winter season when we experience lower passenger numbers due to our usual seasonality. Our flown utilization of 68 percent exceeds the pre-pandemic level of 65 percent in January 2019. We continue to make progress with SAS Forward and our US Chapter 11 process. We have recently completed our negotiations with the aircraft lessor and expect to achieve our targeted cost reductions in annual aircraft leasing and financing costs,” said Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS.
