The airline TAP Air Portugal expects a high participation in the flight attendant strike announced for the beginning of December 2022. The carrier has already canceled half of the flights scheduled for December 8 and 9, 2022.
No agreement has yet been reached between the unions and management. The airline now assumes the two-day industrial action WILL go ahead. For this reason, passengers are allowed to make rebookings free of charge, but these are limited in time.
As a precaution, about half of the flight program planned for December 8th and 9th, 2022 has already been canceled. Around 360 flights are affected. At a conference, company boss Christine Ourmieres-Widener criticized the way the employee representatives worked.
She accuses the unions that the dispute will be carried out on the backs of the passengers. Around 50,000 travelers would be affected by the cancellations. TAP Air Portugal would suffer financial damage of at least 8.3 million euros. The employee representatives are demanding higher wages and better working conditions. Management’s most recent offer was rejected as insufficient.
